Stijn Vanmarsenille

Composer / Musician / Live Performance

Stijn Vanmarsenille, born 1978 in Ghent, was surrounded by his father's instruments during his childhood. He started out with the clarinet at the age of 12 and started playing guitar at age 16. Soon followed by a drumcomputer and sampler. At young age it was already clear that he nor had the patience nor the interest in mastering one instrument.

His professional musical career started when he joined local cultband Waldorf in 2009. 2 Years later he was asked to join 'Drums Are For Parades' (DAFP) and 'Maya's Moving Castle' (MMC).

With MMC he was asked to make the music for a contemporary dance piece ('When the wind blows, the birds fly low') in 2014 by a new dance company ‘Incognitus’. This is where he met Helder Seabra. From then on Stijn was involved in Seabra's later productions. 'In Absentia' (2015), 'Lore' (2016), 'Urbach' (2017), 'Röntgen' (2018, a split evening with Johannes Wieland in Kassel), 'Performance project at B12' in Berlin (2018), 'Hiatus' (2018, coproduction with Unusal symptoms in Bremen), 'The well in the Lake' (2019 by Helder Seabra and Julio Iglesias Ungo in Münster) and 'Dawn' (2019 by Helder Seabra for company Kale in Porto).

Meanwile he formed the band 'Future Old People Are Wizards' (FOPAW). They released 3 albums so far. In this band Stijn took on the lead as a singer and guitar player which was new to him until then. They are currently doing European tours twice a year.

In 2015 he was asked to join weirdo/kraut/surf/sludgeband Elefant as a keyboardplayer/maniac. They released an Ep, a 7 inch and a full album ('Konark und Bonark') and recently finished their second 'album 'Bejahung'. In 2017 he released an EP with electronic music (Vanmarsenille) and is working on a project that combines poetry, visuals and techno (Nymphonic Orchestra).

In 2019 he joined the bands 'Ian Clement' and 'The Almighty Mighty' and is doing concerts with them.

During all these years he also made music for commercials (ANVRDIE, Cote d'Or, Kinepolis…), short movies and took on producing (runSOFA, Umachine and Onset) and remixing other bands under the name of Elefant.
