Afonso Cunha’s journey in dance began in 2006 when he first immersed himself in the dynamic world of breaking. This initial passion evolved into a profound dedication to contemporary dance, leading him to the Balleteatro Professional School in 2012. After completing his studies in 2015, Afonso embarked on his first significant collaboration with Né Barros on the project "Lastro," marking the beginning of an artistic partnership that would flourish over the years.
In 2016, Afonso expanded his horizons by enrolling in the four-year program at the prestigious Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). This pivotal period in Salzburg not only honed his skills but also allowed him to collaborate with renowned international dancers and choreographers, enriching his artistic repertoire.
Upon completing his training in 2020, Afonso returned to Portugal, where he reconnected with Né Barros to contribute to several innovative creations, including "Neve," "A História do Soldado," "Co:Lateral" and "Distante." His creative versatility also led to a collaboration with Companhia Instável on the project "Lowlands" by Helder Seabra.
Currently based in Lisbon, Afonso is a proud member of Companhia Paulo Ribeiro, where he continues to explore and expand the boundaries of contemporary dance. His journey reflects a commitment to artistic growth, marked by meaningful collaborations and an ever-evolving passion for dance.
